Action Without Borders, also called Idealist, provides a searchable list of over 26,000 nonprofit and community groups in 153 countries, a list of thousands of volunteer opportunities, and a Nonprofit Career Center. It is not connected to any government, political ideology or religious creed.

Biogas Forum This Swiss organization presents information about the renewable energy source, "biogas". Many links to important web sites. The site is available in English or German.

ECHO. The Educational Concerns for Hunger Organization strives to supply ideas, information, training and seeds to those overseas who are working in agriculture and development. The site contains lots of information about growing food under difficult conditions. ECHO's book of technical bulletins for farmers in developing countries, is available online with a link from the Bookstore. It is also for sale in English or Spanish from the ECHO bookstore.

Eco Earth. Eco Earth is the new name for the greatly expanded and updated Eco-Portal web site. It continues to be an information gateway empowering the movement for environmental sustainability. In addition there is an Earth Blog and an expanded Earth News. Eco Earth along with Climate Ark, WaterConserve, Forests.org and Ocean Conserve are projects of Ecological Internet.

EnviroLink claims to be "The largest online environmental information resource on the planet".

Environmental Sites in Maine.

FACT Net provides information about the value of multipurpose, nitrogen gixing trees for sustainable farming. These trees enrich the soil, protect the environment and improve the lives of the people who rely on the land for their livelihood. Altho FACT Net closed in 1999, this web site remains as an on-line resource of information and a source of seed suppliers. The site is available in English, Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese.

FAO Forestry is the website for Forestry by the UN's Food & Agriculture Organization. Their highlights section features the latest "State of the World's Forests".

Forests.org works to end deforestation, preserve old-growth forests, conserve and sustainably manage other forests, maintain climatic systems and commence the age of ecological restoration. This web site is for educational and non-commercial use only.

Green Pages.org is a world wide directory of links to environmental sites, reference sources, and contacts to specialists in many disciplines.

Grupo Fenix conducts research and developes methods of local production for simple, cost effective ways to supply rural Nicaragua with renewal energy from solar or other technologies.

GuideStar is a free service where over 850,000 nonprofits post their programs and finances. Also has news on philanthropy and resources for donors and volunteers.

International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives. ICLEI works with local governments to improve the global environment and sustainable development conditions. When viewing search results, scroll down to "Links to Other Websites from our Link Database".

The International Network of Forests and Communities supports ecologically sustainable community forestry with research and by raising awareness of the communities that depend on forests and the the value of those forests in other ways.

King Mahendra Trust, an autonomous, non-profit and non-governmental organization working for nature conservation, bio-diversity protection, natural resource management and sustainable rural development in Nepal. Many of their projects are similar to SeedTree projects.

Life An NGO with a variety of projects that support, sustain and/or enrich life. The project most closely related to SeedTree is the Greenfield Project which works to create a healthier environment by supplying trees and plants for replanting. Their ProPoor InfoTech Center, has extensive information about several thousand NGOs across South Asia. It is committed to helping the marginalized sectors of society and contains information about SeedTree Nepal, the locally organized group in Nepal working with SeedTree.

Maine Solar Energy Association. Their web site has a calendar of upcoming events, where to find alternative energy products, and a list of other solar energy web sites.

OISCA-International. The Organization for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement, founded in 1961, works for sustainable development by teaching improved methods of agriculture, fishing, and forestry.

Occidental United Eastern and Southern Transfers The nonprofit, OUEST, administers the G3 project in Nepal. It's mission is to help the disadvantaged in developing countries reach their maximum potential. The G3 project works to improve education, health care, agroforestry, and the lives of women in the hill region of Nepal.

The Rainforest Information Centre Inc. is a non-profit, volunteer organisation dedicated to the protection of the Earth's remaining rainforests and the indigenous people who depend on them. RIC saved the sub-tropical rainforests of New South Wales, Australia, in the early 1980s. Their Good Wood page has important information about sustainably grown and certified timber.

The Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Ecology works on biodiversity conservation and protecting people's rights from threats to their livelihoods and environment by centralised systems of monoculture in forestry, agriculture and fisheries. It was founded in Dehra Dun, Uttar Pradesh, India in 1982 by Dr. Vandana Shiva.

Soil & Water Conservation Society A scientific and educational organization of professional conservationists. It fosters the science and the art of soil, water and related natural resource management to achieve sustainability.

Trees for Life helps people plant fruit trees in developing countries. Each tree protects the environment and provides a low-cost, self-renewing source of food for a large number of people. Education, health and environment are the focus of their activities.

WIRE. The World-wide Information System for Renewable Energy is an initiative of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES). There are many sections including: news, discussions, job exchange, links, and essay-type papers related to various renewable energy topics.

WiserEarth is a community directory and networking forum that maps and connects non-governmental organizations and individuals addressing the central issues of our day; climate change, poverty, the environment, peace, water, hunger, social justice, conservation, human rights and more. Content is created and edited by people like you. We work toward a just and sustainable world created by community.

WWW Virtual Library: Sustainable Development is a comprehensive list of internet sites dealing with sustainable development. It includes organisations, projects and activities, electronic journals, libraries, references and documents, databases, directories or metadatabases.

World Wide Fund for Nature, Global Network. WWF's mission is to stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature, by conserving the world's biological diversity, ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable, and promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.
